Dr Michael B. Simpson
Industry Manager, Refining and Petrochemicals
Mike Simpson read Chemistry at Oxford University (Exeter College) between 1970 and 1974, and has been engaged with FT-IR spectroscopy as an analytical tool since taking his PhD at Nottingham University, Department of Chemistry in 1982. A spell in industrial research followed with The General Electric Company, developing low-temperature far-infrared FT-IR and FT-NIR based laser photoluminescence instruments for the detection of ultra low-concentration impurities in semiconductor materials. Since 1994 Mike has been closely involved with developing the field of the application of FT-NIR analyzers on-line for the monitoring and optimization of industrial processes, particularly refinery hydrocarbon streams including crude distillation, conversion unit operations and final product blending. Over this period he has been involved as an applications scientist on projects, in technical sales support and latterly in marketing and portfolio development. He currently manages the FT-NIR product portfolio for ABB in refinery applications.
Dr Michael B. Simpson will be speaking at:
