09:30 - 09:50

Biofuels in Asia: what does the growing biofuels market mean for refiners?

The advent of alternatives (including biofuels) have been impactful to the refining industry in Asia. This will continue in the years ahead, and even more so. Refiners need to understand the changing dynamics and trends of alternative fuel developments in Asia.

The Asian Clean Fuels Association (ACFA) has been working closely with government bodies in Asia. This presentation will focus on the latest development of alternative energy, particularly the biofuel trends, in Asia. We will be looking at several case studies in Asia, where the biofuel programs had been implemented and sharing on the successes and challenges of the programs. We will also be looking into the electric vehicle trends in China and Japan. On the jet fuels and marine fuels, we are seeing that the biofuel volume taking over a major share of the market in these two sectors.

  • Clarence Woo Executive Director - Asian Clean Fuels Association
09:50 - 10:10

Achieving complex-wide asset utilization using connected performance services

In an increasingly competitive environment, asset utilization has become a critical area of focus especially when conditions outside of your control change.  The complexity of this problem is greatly enhanced when considering asset utilization across a complex, such as an Aromatics or Naphtha Complex, due to process and energy integration, not to mention human capital challenges. This session explores how cloud-based technologies can deliver ongoing insights and recommendations directly to the right person from the unit engineer to owner at the refinery or petrochemical plant.

Panel discussion: Digital refining across crude procurement, maintenance and supply chain

Refinery operations, maintenance, supply chain and sales must be integrated with the national demand for refinery products. Digital platforms and the ‘Internet of Things’ hold immense potential to cut costs and improve output while integrating all of these departments. This panel explores digital refining from an operational perspective, looking not just at the platforms but their use and implementation. Topics to be discussed include:

  • Key areas for digitalisation: crude procurement, maintenance (scheduling and components) and supply. In each area how can digital technology be used to improve operations?
  • Big data and IoT: what sort of information should you be collecting? Which parts of the refining process would benefit from greater transparency?

Morning break

Hear from senior engineers and technical staff outlining the latest core refinery technologies and how they are improving output. Listen to real-life case studies exploring how these technologies made tangible impact on refinery operations.
