Zhiguo Hou

Technical Sales Manager, Resid Conversion
ExxonMobil

Zhiguo Hou is the Technical Sales Manager, Resid Conversion, at Catalysts and Licensing Global Business Unit, ExxonMobil Chemical Company.  He is currently responsible for the sales and license of the company’s resid conversion technology worldwide.

Mr. Hou joined ExxonMobil in 1996 at ExxonMobil’s Process Research in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Since then he has worked on a variety of R&D and refining process projects including leadership role in developing catalyst technologies for resid upgrading, and low sulfur diesel and mogas.

From 2002 and 2004, he took an assignment at the Engineering Department of ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Co. (EMRE) at Fairfax, Virginia to lead a joint project to develop on-board gasoline reforming technology for fuel-cell vehicle in collaboration with GM and Toyota. In 2005, he returned to Baton Rouge and then moved to Clinton, New Jersey to lead a catalyst R&D program for clean transportation fuels.

After a 2-year assignment at EMRE Planning Department from 2007 to 2009, Mr. Hou was transferred to EMRE Technology Sales and Licensing Department, where he held several technology sales and portfolio management positions including the Licensing Manager for China.  In 2017, he became the Technical Sales Manager for sales and license of the company’s resid conversion technologies.

Mr. Hou received a BS from the University of Science and Technology of China, and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.  He has over 40 patents and publications in the area of catalysis, inorganic chemistry, and refining process.
