Global marine fuel sulphur cap: challenges of a 2020 implementation

International Maritime Organisation (IMO) announced the implementation of global sulphur cap of 0.5% S for the marine bunker fuels by 2020. The announcement has major implications for refiners and shipping industry. The paper will also discuss the availability of the compliant fuels by 2020 and discuss the options that lies in front of refiners. The paper will also explore the prospects of LNG as bunker fuel and company the economics of fuels scrubbing technology. A couple of scenarios will also be covered in terms of demand and pricing.
