Pre-ARTC Energy Efficiency Workshop

09.00am – 17.00pm

Energy Inefficiencies in Refineries: Where Are They and How to Remove Them?

Delegates will have the opportunity to attend this informative one day workshop prior to the ARTC 19th Annual Meeting. This 1-day workshop is an introduction to the ever-important topics of refinery energy efficiency, and the ways to improve it. Energy is the largest single operating cost in a refinery. A pace-setting energy performer may see a net profit margin as much as 130 % higher than an average refinery. The workshop will address the main areas and causes of energy inefficiency, and suggest effective approaches to removing them.

  • The Effect of Energy Efficiency on Refinery Profit Margin
  • Benchmarking Energy Efficiency
  • Where are the inefficiencies?
    • Gap Analysis.
  • The Importance of Steam and Power System
    • Power Generation Efficiency
  • The Importance of Equipment Efficiency
    • Process Units? They can be inefficient too.
  • Heat Integration and How to Improve it
    • What is Pinch Technology?
    • How to Commission a Pinch Study?
  • Conducting Effective Energy Efficiency Improvement Programme
    • Do You Need External Expertise?

The workshop will be conducted by Dr Zoran Milosevic, a renowned expert in the field.
Dr Milosevic is currently professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Surrey, UK. Prior to that, he was consultant with KBC Process Technology for 23 years, where he carried out more than 50 refinery and petrochemicals energy surveys and conducted numerous energy-related training courses worldwide.
